SPECiAL EDiTiON: EASTER EGG HUNT! #

Breaking news! As you can see, this is a special Easter edition! Our reporters woke up on Sunday,April 12th,with an excited look on both of their faces. Gwendolyn, our Editer In Chief, woke up at FOUR AM and waited till SIX FIFTY to check outside her door!!!!!!!!!!!!! A marsipan bunny,an egg filled with choclates, and a collection of The Boxcar children were soon found. Also outside the door was a pet balloon that looked like a kangaroo with a joey in it's pouch. Soon our Head Reporter,Elspeth, woke up. Gwendolyn had already seen some eggs that were in the family room, and Elspeth too. The places were:on the trampoline,on some Twisty Stix, and next to a cup of nuts and bolts. They were strange places, but they knew that the Easter bunny was extra sneaky at their house. In the water flosser, behind the mouthwash, etc. Later, they had dacquoise. So,all in all,a pretty good Easter! Stay safe,my friends!

Dear Badger #

Dear Badger,
I am having trouble with some of my "co-workers" while trying to work at home. My "co-workers" Hamilton and Walter wont stop trying to send emails on my computer, climbing on the bookshelf, chasing each other around, calling after birds in the yard, or demanding that we all take a snack break right meow. Kasdjfklh waoirioqwetoihoifg haoisfhmeow. See, that is an email Hamilton just tried to send even though I told him that I was using the computer right now. Any advice on how to keep these co-workers feline included during the day?

Dear covid conundrum, I think you should build a robot that plays with your kitties. P.S. thank you for sending in a problem

Dear Badger,
It was just my best friend's birthday. She is really special and she made me a really cool birthday gift and I want to make her something special and handmade. Here's the thing, Badger, I don't think I'm a good artist even though I haven't tried to create anything a while. So what should I do? Should I try and make her something? How should I overcome my own self doubt?
From Self-Doubting Princess Peanut

Dear Self-doubtin Princess,
if it was my best freind, I wouldn't care if it wasn't very good, because it's the thought that counts.

Recipe from cook's illustrated #

Published November/December 2012 #

When I saw this recipe, I thought it'd be easy enough. I didn't see why we were making it the day before, because it couldn't take two days to make meringue, buttercream, and ganache, right? Well... yes, it can. In fact, I don't think we ever could've made it all in one day. It seems easy enough, if you don't read through the whole recipe, and it isn't that it's hard that it takes that long. Many things added together cause that. For instance, the meringue takes an hour and a half to bake, which wouldn't be that long normally. However, you must cool it in the oven for another hour and a half, or it will collapse. We made the butter cream during these three hours, but it uses a pastry cream, which makes it light and delicious, but also has to cool. Basically, this recipe takes a long time to assemble. After hearing all this, you may not want to make it. But let me tell you, all that effort is worth it when you taste it for the first time. It is light, and not too sweet. It just tastes amazing. It is a great dessert to make if you have lots of time on your hands. One tip: don't worry if the layers of meringue crack. You can never tell where when the whole thing is assembled.

Virtual Trip to London #

A West Seattle family felt sad when their Spring Break trip to San Diego was canceled. So they took a virtual trip to London.
Day 1:
For lunch they had high tea. High Tea is when you bake a bunch of sweets and you have tea with egg salad sandwiches.
They had had a very happy day in London but they needed their sleep so they went to bed.

Bird Ex-sight-ment #

The first Osprey was seen soaring over Solstice Park this week, back from Central America for the fishing season. (Ospreys hunt above rivers or lakes and dive, feet first, to pluck the fish fresh from the water.)

A raven swooped through the neighborhood pursued by some loud and cranky crows. There was an exhibition of fancy aerobatics as the birds headed south toward Lincoln Park.

And what's with those FLAMINGOS and all their flapping! Will they be moving on soon or are they here to stay?

Collective Noun Fun #

A letter from Fluffy #

Hello Readers,
I am Fluffy the Hamster. You may have heard of me from Gwendolyn, who is one of my biggest fans. I am the class pet in Room 14 at Gatewood Elementary. Usually my cage is surrounded by 2nd graders, and I get to learn all sorts of subjects like vocabulary, subtraction, and writing. I am a very smart hamster. But, alas! Suddenly school ended, and I had to take a car ride home to Ms. Sales' house. This is very sad because I miss my kids, and they miss me. Who wouldn't? The good news is, I am quite comfortable with my cage next to the window. I sit on a bench between a big Lego mansion and some pots full of tomatoes and cucumbers. I get to watch the neighbors walking by with their kid and dogs. Everyone stays far apart, but they are cheerful and friendly. More good news is, Ms. Sales gives me lots of treats. Every time she works in the garden or makes a salad, she remembers to give me yummy veggies. She also washes my ball and lets me explore the house. A giant gray cat keeps me company everywhere I go, but she doesn't bother me. I'm having fun in the sun, and I hope you are too!
Keep running in your wheel,
Fluffy the Hamster.

A Special Dear Badger #

Dear Badger,
Is it true that sharks must always swim in order to keep alive? And how many different kinds of sharks are there in the world?
Signed,
Curious about sharks

Dear Curious,
Many sharks don't have to swim in order to survive. But some, like whale sharks, great whites, and hammer heads, do, or they will die. I don't know exactly how many species of sharks there are, but it is around 500, with many new ones yet to be discovered. -Badger's assistant
